Employee Engagement for Teams
The new CEO of a large North American organization wanted his first off-site with his leadership team and their reports to focus on getting to know each other better and getting to know the organization better under new leadership. 30% of this management team was recent hires. In addition, the CEO wanted the off-site to promote both greater candor among the members, and a willingness to openly explore issues of concern among each other and with the President. Also, the CEO wanted the off-site to promote greater clarity regarding new initiatives and ways of doing business without casting aside those values and methods that have contributed to success in the past. This would provide an opportunity for the management team to gain clarity about the kind of culture the CEO wanted to create.
OLG and the CEO’s planning team spent many hours carefully designing the off-site.
The main goals of the program were to:
- Learn more about current business
- Deepen trust and increase candor among members of the group
- Improve intra-team communication and collaboration
- Provide an opportunity for the President and the managers to communicate openly about new initiatives, about the need to embrace change without abandoning methods that have worked in the past
- Create a new culture together by keeping what is working and creating new opportunities for collaboration
OLG facilitated a structured three day off-site meeting, during which we ran a series of exercises, and facilitated discussions intended to achieve the goals mentioned above.
CEO response (unsolicited) after the workshop had been completed: “I could really not have been more pleased . . . Ron did a wonderful job and the reactions from the group are really positive....beyond my expectations.”
And the VP of HR: “Just a brief note of thanks for the planning and effort you put into making our management off-site meeting a success. Ron, you did an excellent job of creating a comfortable learning environment and I am confident that our meeting objectives were met...nicely done!”
